When examining Mies’ use of the tectonic order in the Neue Nationalgalerie, one sees a subtle misalignment between the visual correlation of structural elements and the truth of structures. Mies displayed raw materials in a way that contributes to a holistic visual space. The interior of the Neue Nationalgalerie pavilion can be characterized as a 200’ x 200’ volume saturated with optical and ornamental modules.
